The Rose & Crown - Luxury Hotel in County Durham
The Rose and Crown is a classic 18th century English coaching inn set on the middle green in one of Northern England’s prettiest villages. Owned by Christopher and Alison Davy since 1989, it has gained an enviable reputation as one of the finest inns in the UK with several major national awards.
Much of its original fabric remains with polished panelling, gleaming brasses and old beams. Guests can choose between the buzz of the bar with its oak settles, old prints, carriage lamps and crackling fire in the dog grate or the quiet of the residents’ lounge with lots of magazines, books and comfy wing chairs.
Each bedroom is different – traditional in the main house and more modern in the Courtyard – all with striking fabrics, modern bathrooms and two with private sitting room. Guests can decide between a fixed price four-course dinner in the candlelit Restaurant or a lighter supper in the informal Brasserie.
Teesdale offers fabulous countryside for walking. Other attractions include Raby Castle, The Bowes Museum, Durham Cathedral and Beamish Open Air Museum.
